Summer Camp Powered by LEGO®Think. Build. Solve.
Summer Camp Powered by LEGO®Spanish Peaks Community Foundation, through our Fox Theatre Programming, organizes STEMHack, a summer camp where local kids to learn and explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This camp includes hands-on engineering, robotics, and coding using LEGO® Education SPIKE Prime kits designed for kids between the ages of 11 and 14.
STEMHack 2025 was the pilot of this program. We engaged 11 children from Huerfano County over an 8-week summer camp (June-July).
In our pilot of this program, in summer of 2025, we found that the programming had significant impacts on the participants who participated. Every child that participated reported more interest in coding after the 8-week program concluded and 20% of the kids reported more interest in Engineering & Robotics.
In order to make STEM feel accessible and possible for our participants, it was important to us that the program was an enjoyable expereince for them. We found that 100% of the kids reported that they had fun and made friends at the end of the program.
Additionally, all parent evaluations reported after the camp that their child was more confident, more engaged in the community, and showed more excitement for STEM after participating in the camp.
